Engagement with the Church in Africa

On 2 February 2025, IMCS/MIEC Pax Romana was represented at the episcopal consecration of Bishop Tesfaye Tadesse Gebresilasie, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Addis Ababa, by the Secretary-General of the movement, Mr. Fasika Lachore Laba.

Bishop Tesfaye Tadesse Gebresilasie, who previously served as Superior General of the Comboni Missionaries of the Heart of Jesus from 2015 to 2024, was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Addis Ababa by Pope Francis on 6 November 2024.

During the liturgical celebration, the newly consecrated bishop acknowledged the presence of IMCS Pax Romana global leadership. Following the ceremony, Mr. Fasika Lachore Laba and Mr. Marcel Akpovo, former Pan-African Coordinator of IMCS Pax Romana and current Regional Representative of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in East Africa and Representative to the African Union, engaged in an exchange with the newly ordained bishop and His Eminence Cardinal Berhaneyesus Souraphiel, Archbishop of Addis Ababa.

The encounter provided an opportunity to reaffirm IMCS Pax Romana’s commitment to accompanying the pastoral mission of the Church among students and young people, while strengthening bonds of dialogue and cooperation with ecclesial leadership in the African region.
